(Jan 18/09) Saturday night I stood in a local cafe, by the mic... playing the guitar with nimble fingers, singing one of my favourite songs. People were talking. People were walking in to order food. People were listening with smiles on their faces. People were moving about, getting ready to leave, as though it was a radio playing and not a live human being. But it came to me that it really didn't matter if I was background music or foreground music, whether they were busy with their own concerns or whether they were avid listeners. It didn't matter because I was in the music and doing the thing that makes me feel most alive.
