(Jan 10/09) It's a weakness of mine, massage. Like chocolate. It probably sounds like something that is non-essential and expensive. But it has definitely changed my life for the better. I started going fairly regularly in the fall of 2007, to help deal with stress. I dropped it for awhile and then got back on track in the spring of 2008. By going regularly, I've helped my body heal old wounds and release toxins. I've helped myself cope with the weekly stresses of work. The most wonderful thing massage has done for me, is help me walk better. I was having difficulties with my knees due to figure skating & accidents. In November 2007, when I was in California, my knees were bothering me so much I was walking with two canes (I kid you not). I was terrified I would need knee replacement surgery.
After months of regular sessions with my massage therapist, I went to California in November 2008. I brought one folding cane in my back pack... and never had to take it out. Walked all around San Francisco & LA, was careful, but very happy. Delighted. Well worth the investment to have a holistic treatment that improves my quality of life that much.
I'm always recommending massage to my vocal students as well. for relaxation, for healing, for stress relief. Alexander Technique is also a good option. Anything to release tension & help the voice be free from strain.
